"- YoYoGames.com is as we’ve said a community, and will attract users of all ages, so we ask you to consider this before uploading a game that could be seen as pornographic or highly unsuitable for younger users. If a game is flagged by another user for this reason, it risks being removed.
- Similarly, if your game contains graphic or gratuitous violence it may be very offensive to some users, so please think carefully before uploading. That’s not to say we don’t like FPS’s and such, but common sense tells us when a line has been crossed…"

Sometimes explicit violence, gore, drugs, ect. improve the story and game play of a game. A great example is Resident Evil. Would it make a difference if the game was marked for violent content and only recommended for certain age.

An interesting thing with "common sense" is that there are as many "common senses" as there are human beings. It's a rather vague rule.

Wouldn't it be a better solution to give the uploader of a game the option to flag the game with a "mature content" -flag? Thus, users having an age below 18 or so won't be able to see (or download) those games. Sure, kids will do it anyway someway or another, but then no one can blame YoYo games.

I hate when people say "common sense" and agree that there should be tags. If the games on yoyo are exluding adult games, this site is actualy *for* kids alone as far as I am concerned.

Noooooooo I'd be so annoyed if I couldnt play a game tagged 15 because of mild swearing.

Agreed - YoYo Games should setup some sort of advisory warning system, according to the content of the game (and users should tick explicitt content checkboxes) - or something like that.

hmm think It would be very annoying if there fx. were an intro with a bad guy that smoked a smoke and then the game wasn't able to come to the site just because of that.
Listning to Rhys hes right if there may not be blood and all that, thats is quite normal for games now a days then I think there were alot of the games in here that has to be removed the idea with checkboxes is the best thing (:

If you stop people from posting games with blood, how would that be for "every" kind of gamer and developer? And people like me put as much gore into our games as we feel fits the atmosphere, if you don't like it then don't download, it isn't like people try to trick one another into downloading gorey/explicit/teen/what-have-you games

I have an idea! Maybe we should just not put it on our games! I know none of you guys thought of it, but I think it might just solve this problem!

They should have like an option when uploading a game it says "Age range" and you can put like 10+ or 7+ plus or whatever, and you wont be ultimatly blocked if your age is under that, its just a recomendment.

omfg the guy from the fist post said sometimes that kinda stuff improves the game(not the porn).besides that stuff kinda adds a realistic effect.it's not like no-one in the world smokes or drinks...i forgot what i was talking about...

They should have a ratings system. That way, you can rate your game Teen or something if it has cussing or whatever. But if it has porn it won't be allowed to be uploaded.

And if somebody rates their game wrong they could warn them or delete it, depending on how severe. Like if it has mild language and they rated it E, they'd warn them, but if it has sex references and drugs and they rated it E, they'd delete it.

Azure Knight is right. It does make it more realistic.

Yeah, they should add in a rating box to rate your game (and for what reasons) when you go to add/edit one of your games.

when you post a game, you should be able to give it a rating of 5+, 10+, or 15+ as an age advisory. NOT A RESTRICTION, an advisory. if a ten year old is on this site, he/she'd probably be nervous to play a 15+ game anyway. (note i invented that rating system a while back don't actually use it it's MINE!)

Check out our rock comedy band, Pit O' Bodies! Were missing our bassist, and the recording quality is bad, especially since the vocalist has no mic.

"Mature content" in my book is maturely handling the risk to immature customers. If you're making a game that has violence for violence's sake, that is, to enhance a feeling of "you can't stop me from murdering and chopping and disemboweling" rather than to enhance gameplay aspects, I'd say that's rather IMmature. It's the mature people who don't go looking for trouble by posting stuff that is obviously not suitable for younger ages. It is also the mature users who don't play games when they notice the flags advise against users their age playing the game.

"Mature" ratings are for the immature.

I honestly think that ratings would be a good idea. I think it would be good for the YoYoGames staff to rate it just to make sure that nothing is missed. Since people might find a way around regulations put in place to block underage users from playing, I think just a pop-up message when you look at the game like on Nintendo would be a good idea.

What do you reckon the rating would be for a game with no pornography, no violence, no drug references, and one use of the F word?

Interesting topic: What I wanted to make a game about people having sex, and I made warning signs and blured the screenshots? I mean: If you clearly tell the users that this game is +18 before it starts, would that make a pornografix game legal on this community?
