Okay, here is the scenario:
You are just finnished with making a neat game. So you go and make an executable so you can upload it somewhere and send it to your friends. But you eventually get annoyed that the only way to tell the difference between multiple games is by the name under the many red balls (defalt icon for a game). You have Game Maker 7 Lite, and you want to know how to change that little red ball into something else. So you go to yoyogames.com and post in the forums and ask how. That is exactly what I am doing now. So does anyone know if changing that icon is possible? And do I need to upgrade in order to do so?

You can change the icon of your game in GM Lite. In the resource menu select global game settings, and in the loading tab there is a button which says 'Change icon'. Click on the button, select the icon and thats all. Hope this helps.

The annoying thing though is to find a paint-program that makes icon files >_>

irfanView does the job quite nicely. And it can be used for a fine image viewer and limited editor.

I didn't know this until recently, but GIMP can save files as icons.
Before GIMP I used a program called Pixel Toolbox. It isn't that great of a program, but it gets the job done.

Try this program: Microangelo.

I didn't see it specifically listed in file types to save as in the GIMP, but just type .ico for the ending in the save as window and it should save it ok...if it does it will come up with the correct dialog box for doing so when you click save.
