Play some other computer games and you should get some inspiration that way. Your best games will come when you think of the idea yourself.

Also try forgetting about it for a while and wait until an idea just pops into your head as you're doing other stuff.

This is how I think up some games.
Nothing. Just wait and watch. Most of my inspirations come from TV. Also check other peoples games they can give good inspiration.

Try making fangames (which in the process you will develop some of your own idea) since fangames are already made ideas you can impliment and expand.
I suggest starfox since thats given me some heck of alot more ideas.

I just play the computer games that i own that have good plots, like halo. I have now thought of the entire plot for 2 trilogies of games just from playing some halo [i really had some amazing flashes of inspiration...that just expanded into a whole 1,000 year old plot and stuff.] It's amazing how other games can spark ideas

The Tennis Hero is a character who is a star tennis player who holds the Golden Racket and fights as if it were a sword. He carries an arsenal of tennis balls
to shoot at opponents. Accompanied by the Guardian Leopard who lives in the
spirit of the racket it helps him preform these moves.

Leopard Cannon-A high speed topspin serve that is virtually unreturnable.

Leopard Claw- A high powered smash that hits the other side, then creates a spin effect that kicks over the net back to his side.

Leopard Illusion- A super speed move that takes him from one point to another.

Focus Beam- A shot that charges up and beams the opponents breaking the racket if it gets in the way.

Ian McGregor-A junior from the Highlands of Scotland whose Guardian Sea Monster can destroy other Guardians. He wants to kill Tennis Hero after that faitful match when he lost his sister because he lost to Tennis Hero.

Alex McCaughy-A junior from a big tennis school who seeks revenge after a dark past. His speed, agility, and his Kick Serve is legendary. He is cocky and egotistical and will not lose to those inferior to him.

John Manfred-A wealthy senior from Tennis Hero's rival school who also wields the Guardian Leopard. He also knows Antigravity Foot which can make him fly. He is well liked and can copy others moves.

Roy Thorton-A sophomore from the Springfield Spartans who plays as if he was a deadly Spartan. Pushing his skills to the limit, he has powerful strokes and a (literaly) deadly smash, that can kill on contact!

So whats it going to be?

Hmm... how about "Golf and Goblins"? Half RPG, half sport genre. You fight monsters who try to inveade the clubhouse, because of some 1000-years-old ruins or something like that... I got that inspirstion by playing Mario Golf Advance, because it use the same owerworld engine as Golden Sun. And when I found a 'power drink' in a barrel i had a really laughing-out-loud moment ;) But MGA has too few random battles for my taste : (
