GmMkr GmMkr 1909 posts

Hey guys.
First let me start with something off topic, only a small note.
Please stop calling me GmMkr. Just call me John. :P

EDIT: I know it's long. You don't have to read the whole thing.
It's long because of all of the descriptions I put. Just read this part and the description of the part you're interested in.

Okay now what I started this for. I know there have been a lot of people creating groups that do not stick together and just waste forum space with their topics.
Well I hope that by now you know that I'm not like that.

I also wish to start a group. A game making team.
Right now there are no projects to work on but this way when one of us has an idea we can get to work on it.

I promise to stay committed to my team, I also hope that those whom decide to join will do the same.

There is no limit to how many people can join but when more than one person signs up for the same category (i.e. Spriter) then I need to choose a leader.

Here are the positions:
-Group leaders: John, Luke, SoulRed12
-Programmers: John, Luke
-Sprites director:
-Spriters: JAk HAk
-Artists: JAk HAk
-Sound director: SoulRed12
-Sounds: SoulRed12, im_not_emo
-Story director: Skaithra
-Story Creators: Steware
-Testers: pilotteaml, Chad
-Debug crew: The programmers

Don't think that because you can't program I'll let you in as a tester.
People like that just aren't committed. You need to have talent for your position.
Here are the descriptions and how it all goes down.

Descriptions:
-Group leaders:
These are the ones that make sure the whole "show" runs as it should. They give orders and pick what should be changed and what should remain.

-Programmers:
These are the ones that make the game run smoothly. They make all of the code. They also comment all of the code for other members to understand what each code is doing.

-Sprites/Art director:
This is only one person. I may add an assistant sprites director. This is the person
that decides whether or not a sprite/art is usable. If it isn't then the sprite/art is saved in a file in case we ever need it again. If a sprite/art doesn't get passed by him/her then it never reaches the programmers.

-Spriters:
Pretty self-explanatory. They make the sprites.

-Artists:
These don't make sprites. They make art such as the backgrounds and the icon.
Loading bars, cut-scenes, all major art forms. Text, etc.

-Sound director:
Does the same thing that the sprites director does only this applies for sound.
If a sound gets rejected it never reaches the programmers. I may assign an assistant.

-Sounds:
Again, self-explanatory. They create the sounds.

-Story director:
Checks the stories created to find contradictions or to see if it makes sense. Makes changes where needed and tells the story creators what needs to be taken out. I may assign an assistant.

-Story Creators:
They create the stories. They make the story line and decide on the cut-scenes if any. Also, they are the ones that come up with all of the characters and monsters.
They declare which sprites they need. They need to take it up with the group leaders first though. Then take it up with the Sprites Director.

-Testers:
They test the game. They see if there are any bugs within the game.
Since they have the source code they check through it when they find a bug and they talk to the debug crew about what may be wrong.

-Debug crew:
Self-explanatory, they debug the game.

No, you may not be in two groups. This causes loss of concentration and causes everyone to split up.
(This means that you may not be both a programmer and a spriter. Nor any other two categories.)

Sorry for being so strict but I must be if this is to be a success. I hope we get many applicants. I will need examples of your work.

Also, if you plan to be a programmer and your example is bad visually, don't worry, I'll only be judging the programming.

Thanks for your time.

EDIT: Just so that there is not confusion as to whom is more
powerful than whom, here is the list as to how it works. From least to greatest.
(Small descriptions too I guess)

1) Testers- Least powerful. What they do is test.
Power over no one.

2) Sounds- Not saying that it's not important, just saying that this is where it belongs. Make the sounds and show them to the sound director.
Power over no one.

3) Sound Director- Checks sounds made by the sounds crew. Makes decisions.
Power over the sounds crew.

4) Artists- Also important but this is where they belong. Make things such as the main title screen and backgrounds. Etc.
Power over no one.

5) Spriters- Already higher up. Make the sprites.
Power over no one.

6) Sprites director- Checks all sprites, etc.
Power over the sprites crew.

7) Story creators- Although usually under-looked, very important.
Power over Spriters but not sprites director.
Power over sounds crew but not sound director.
In other words they can also decide if a sprite or sound stays but the sprite/sound directors have the final say.

8) Story director- Very important.
Power over Story creators.
Power over Spriters but not sprites director.
Power over sounds crew but not over Sounds director.

9) Programmers: Extremely important.
Power over all except any directors.

10) Group leaders: Most important.
Power over all. Absolute last word in everything.
(We're kind though :P)

The debug crew just reports bugs, therefore doesn't have power over anyone.

Sorry to have made this entire post so long but I need for all of you to know how this whole operation is organized. Hopefully none of you get confused. Any questions? PM me.

IMPORTANT EDIT!
I know that I said that you can't be in two groups/categories. Here are the ones in which that is acceptable.

-Anyone can be in the Tester category except for the programmers and the group leaders.
-A spriter or sound crew member can be a Sprite director or a sound director respectively.
-A spriter may also be an artist and vice-versa.
-If there are any more that you think should be allowed don't hesitate to ask.

-John

Great job John, and I'd love to help with this.

Everyone, please consider this thoughtfully, as we don't want people who THINK they can program when all they can do is bounce a ball.

I will leave it up to John to give out his details, but I have Yahoo! Messenger, AIM, MSN, and ICQ if anyone needs my help on something. Just ask.

Seems that there has been a misunderstanding.

When I say that you may not be in two groups I mean that you
may not be both a programmer and a spriter. Or work with music
and testing.

Also, everyone. To improve communication, regardless if you have AIm, MSN, Yahoo, or ICQ, I can link us all into a single chatroom with a program I designed a while back.

In other words, so we can all talk to each other at the same time, then it is possible to do so without everyone being on the same account type.
