I've been wondering this for a LONG time. How come black people can say the N (n*****) and the other black pepole will be like "yeh!!!!" but if a white person does it, he'll get shot?

NAL

On the content - it's generally used in the context of "brother" or "friend" when used in the African American community. It would be spelt ending with an "-a", not an "-er". Recently it has come into use by caucaseans in the same context. If used as an insult (spelt with an "-er" ending) it would considered racist and offensive regardless of the race of the person using it.

On the content in general - this topic seriously needs to be locked. It reeks of racism and could very easily offend (making it a controversial topic, which is against the forum rules).

I'm not offended at all. Also, I have a white friend who says the N-Word and the rest of my friends aren't bothered by it since we grew up with him. We know he's not using it negatively. Now why other races can use the word "Cracker" and Whites can't use the word N**** is beyond me.

Edit: If those who post in this topic aren't flaming it could actual be used to educate or something lol.

Exactly, It kind of pisses me off.

And of course when one is mad at a black person it's "Racist"

I have a black friend... He doesn't really care. To me and him and the rest of my school, calling someone a n***** is like calling someone a b****. Same with cracker.

Dear lord you better be black...

There is a reason why my friends use it (I do occasionally) but me sayin it would be racist.

And it's not a right, because you can say it too if you're not black. It's just that some may not agree and some are violent...

Now change the damn topic title, that's offensive

QuoteDear lord you better be black...
Why? Because only the minority has a right to comment on something? That doesn't make much sense to me.

QuoteNow why other races can use the word "Cracker" and Whites can't use the word N**** is beyond me.
And there lies the heart of the issue. It's the fact that some words are OK for one group to say, and some aren't. It reminds me of What Morgan Freeman says about Black History Month. Why should one group be so special? Isn't the whole point equality? Well then, let's go for that. Stop thinking that you are allowed to do or have something simply because of your race--that's how slavery began, remember. It's fine to remember that you are different, to hold on to your your diversity--in fact, that's brilliant. Just don;t bring back the old views of one group being allowed to do something simply because of the color of their skin or the way they walk.

QuoteAnd it's not a right, because you can say it too if you're not black. It's just that some may not agree and some are violent...
Exactly. It's an accepted social right which seems to be to be rather wrong. There's a difference when saying the word depending on your skin color. There should not be.

But...NAL is right here. This is pretty controversial. If you guys want to debate things like this, you can always join Game Maker Station (link in my sig). We debate all the time on whatever ^_^

Don't need any flame wars here, remember....

DeathandGrim2

think why...

It's offensive (and that DOG thing offended alot of black people don't you think)

It's a word that we hold as our because a helluva lot of us died while being called that word. We fought over that word, we died over it. Basically it's reminding everyone of the terrible things that happened in slavery and then racism. We're offended if someone else uses it because you are pretty playing the role of people who used it back then, and are likely to get an ass whooping because we hate them. It's an offensive term to us. But if we use we are basically (even if used as a negative term) saying "I'm you're brother, I (or my relatives) have been through the hard times caused by this word. Unity.

Also for some ironic effect:

Trivia: The word Nigger was made by whites and it means "ignorant"

And "Negro" can be interpreted as the former, even though it is spanish

So unless even part black, don't use the word

That was exactly what I was thinking Vlad except I couldn't put it to words.
There are two types of people: racists and nonracists. I don't like racists at all but I'm fine with almost any nonracist (any race). In my oppinion, racists seem way undereducated.

Edit but I don't believe racist words should be used at all.
I never made anyone my slave nor will I hold one race above another. Not mine nor any other.

Jan 18, 2010 2:19am

Vlad

And so create more separation along color lines within our society with a simple word? What a great idea.

You want to be reminded of racism? All that does is just encourage strife between races. It'd be like saying to a Jew in Germany "hey, remember the Holocaust? These guys did it to you!" when now Germany has fewer and less extreme antisemitic movements than America. It disturbs the peace.

It does not advance the goal of equality.

And I have never owned a slave. I never participated in the horror that is black slavery. I want to put that behind, for all our sakes, so that we can embrace all races as equal. Not forget about it--such things cannot be forgotten. But it's time we got past this obsession with race. People from Europe (mostly Germany) that I have met or known often comment on how race-centric America often seems to be. It is because we are constantly reminded of the point.

And why can't I feel the horror of your past with you? Am i not allowed to feel for those ancestors, those that were trapped slavery? You may all feel the suffering together, but how is it that I cannot be allowed to feel it as well? You have never experienced slavery and neither have I. So how are we different? Our ancestors. Well, isn't America all about starting a new life of equality and hope? Isn't this place about knowing the past and, excuse the pun, getting past it?

Also, "negro" was never meant as a derogatory term. It's just Spanish for "Black." It has been used to describe African for a while now, and the only reason it is not in use anymore is because it was used during slavery--not necessarily in connection with slavery, mind you...just during the same time period.

It's time we stoped focusing on race and started focusing on who we are: Americans (this discussion is centered around America, after all). The one thing we all have in common, regardless of looks or religion or race, is a creed of freedom, liberty, and justice for all...and it's high time we started uniting under that.

OK< I think I've said too much here already...we probably shouldn't be talking about this here...I just can't help it....

A game made by yours truly.
Astonishing, I know.

Has anyone seen that movie Gridlock'd where Tupac's friend says the N-Word around him but gets in trouble saying it to the other black dude. I'm sure one of you guys have seen it. In fact, was it less offensive when Jackie Chan said it in Rush Hour. Heres a link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YyXuP48LDOE

If you don't want to be called a word, don't say it yourself. Same thing goes with F**, or retard.

Edit: No flaming guys, lets try to agree to disagree. I would like to see how this topic turns out.
