Why does YYG have to word certain things like we are 3 year olds?

QuoteWe are sorry that we have to hassle you with all this legal stuff- honestly, we are. It’s not just that our lawyers tell us that it is really important – it is really important. A lot of time and effort has gone into making this site as good as it is and if we are going to be able to keep doing so then we need to keep control of how it is used. You probably understand this anyway but that includes making sure you understand that what you are getting here is a right to use the site and its content but with some limits. It would be great if we could just say “don’t do bad stuff – but keep doing the good stuff” but apparently that isn’t enough.

QuoteGive us a chance ... most of you haven't even seen the site yet !!!!

It just seems...not so professional, and unnecessary. I think we all understand why a TOS needs to be written...

Personally, I found it sort of refreshing to read. I'd rather read a clear, explanative notice than a quasi-professional motley of rhetoric with less precise meaning. At least they are honest with their style.

Also, I don't really know whether this is the case or not, but I suspect that some of those writing on behalf of YYG may not have English as their first language. To me, this is always a clear reason to pardon one's improfessionality when assessing their credibility.

Lol. If you can find a 3 year old that can write like that I'll eat my hat. A lot of people wouldn't even bother to read the TOS. I haven't gotten round to it yet. You don't need perfect grammer in a nice laid back environment.

And then tell my why people hated the uber-confusing Gm7 EULA?
Was it not because of the law-gibberish?

A EULA is completely different thing alltogethor. The gm7 EULA makes it more clear what you are allowed to do with the software.

Why have something that no one understands. I think its fine. Clear and explains things instead of the typical (as gothicemo says) law-gibberish.

Exactly.
It was rewritten in that way, because there were numerous questions and complaints about the original EULA/ TOS.

The reason is they wanted it to be easier to understand, and harder for members to jump to the wrong conclusion, and create a rebellion over something they read incorrectly.

I was mainly talking about the intro. And I didn't say it sounded like a 3 year old WROTE it, it sounded like they were targeting it to 3 year olds. Now maybe this isn't the worst thing in the world, but I'm curious to see what there motive to that is.

The staff want a chance to prove to you guys they are just 'buddies' with more authority, not superior's or 'commercialists". I'd rather this than lame formal crap like how I always speak.

I've read the TOS and I think it is ok, however the second last line is a bit strange:
* All questions, comments or enquiries should be directed to YoYo Games at info@yoyogames.com or via the form on yoyogames.com (click here) [insert], since you cannot click " click here".

Am I ever sick of the "It just isn't professional!" Since when were any of US experts and what is and isn't professional? I personally find it very nice that they did it that way.

There isn't a "correct" reading for an ambiguous statement.... And there are plenty of those in the GM7 EULA. The previous documents I remember as being perfectly clear, precise, and reasonable - I don't know the "numerous questions and complaints" you mention but my guess is that that's a bit of an overstatement, especially put in relative terms.

I'm not complaining, but this is my opinion. It's not like I'm gonna riot over it, I'm just saying. <_<

Would you rather it say:

Article IV
Subsection j.
The party of the first part (user) must not use the site in any way under conditions of considerable malfeasance set forth and defined by the party of the second part (vendor). They are just trying to be casual, informative.

A text like that invites you to read, whereas a law-text is only read when it's absolutely necessary.

You must keep in mind that a large amount of users is quite young AND many of the users don't have English as their first language.
They learned English by hearing it in music and on tv and they don't know the more intricate words which are used in law-texts.

In case you hadn't noticed, being very professional isn't GM's highest priority. GM just wants you to have fun making games the easy way.
