Listen here

1: i downloaded without me knowing

2: it wasnt a crappy looking site

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Cool Web Search ate my computer by
i had no sound, i had a crappy grahpic card and video and
the it damaged the harddrive, turning 160 gb to 72!!

I still have plenty of Space, and my mom found sound files and my dad found a graphic file (or w\e)
Cool web search is a NASTY spyware, it downloaded many viruses and if i tried to uninstall them, and computer freezes, sometimes when i was playing my game, i get like 100000000000000000000000000000 popups, when we tried to redo the computer ( remove all files), IT FAILED!!!! It ate the computer up to where it said the DSL DIDNT EXIST!!! SO IT TRIED TO DIAL UP! WE COULDNT DO ANY THING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! then few hours later, we couldnt even start up the computer (We can turn it on just we cant reach to the desktop) but my dad found some way to redo it, he made it where it wouldnt use the harddrive, the spyware didnt have anything to do! so dad fixed it! when the computer was new anything, the computer was just crappy (no sound) and when you try moving around a program, its just choppy, (cuz of video card) but dad found some to stuff

And the computer is new again (JUST ITS NEVER GONNA BE ONLINE AGAIN!!!! Lol, im on a different computer anyways :P)

wow that was long

I got this stupid spyware/adware and spybot said it wants you to download their program which detects spyware, and you have to pay about € 20 to remove it.

@bobserge: it sounds like a scam trust me i have faced many scams before.
try getting one of those free ones that do it safely and do the job for you i.e. spy bot search and destroy it searches for spy ware and not only that it destroys it or you can always use spyware blaster, never uninstall avg it keeps your computer safe the only thing you have too do is quarintine them too destroy them. it seems as though some companies might have spyware making software which says in the spyware that it can heal your computer but when it shows the healing proggress it actually infects the computer with viruses scary stuff man trust me you shouldn't just trust something just because it says it is safe or won't infect the computer or will protect it. but i know and trust those 3 programs i mentioned so i think it should be safe too use them they only appear too be the safest and yet so far i haven't got anything weird happen too my computer or it screw up my computer. sometimes this can also happen when getting screensavers they are small but if they are big they could contain a viruse or two.

Looking for Programmers, and Artists in PC art, You can be payed $400,000 we currently need 3 new programmers and artists.

I think i have it clear

Popup Maker > Outerinfo (The Popups were named advertisements by OUTERINFO)

Main Programs > DotX1cfg (it was the program that made two and freezes up when you try to use add and remove programs.. >_<)

and if you end task of Dotx1cfg, Error Error Error! O_O Worse then the popups!

I hate spyware! I had this scam which was called Spyware Doctor I think and omg, it was annoying. It gives you a Trillian virus!!! I eventually got 2 programs which removed them both, the virus and Spyware Doctor. I recommend is that before you download anything at all, do some research about the program.

try...

CTRL ALT DEL> Processes

WARINING: NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOU MESS UP

1) if you have XP, start with Ending all the processes that are people's accounts. Don't end any SYSTEMS, LOCAL SERVICES, or NETWORK SERVICES. Once if all those are ended, go: file New Task. type "explorer" and test and see if it did it. if the problem has stopped, move to #3. else...

2) your going to really have to perform surgery. This is tricky, because one false move and you have to restart your system... at least thats the worst I know.

First of all, don't end SVCHOST.exe . I use XP and I'll list all the proggies that are running under system, local and network:
SVCHOST.EXE
System Idle Process
System
swdsvc.exe
SAService.exe
SMSS.EXE
CSRSS.EXE
WINLOGIN.EXE
SERVICES.EXE
LSASS.EXE
ccSetMgr.exe
ccEvtMgr.exe
ccProxy.exe
SNDSrvc.exe
SPBBCSvc.exe
symlcvc.exe
aawservise.exe
spoolsv.exe
svcntaux.exe
NSCSRCE.EXE
usnsvc.exe

I'd keep those.

That should stop it.

3) Other people suggested spyware removal programs. use those now that your comp isn't blowing up.

You may need to do some manual cleaning. Whatever you do, don't delete anything important.

hope you don't have to go farther.

PS. two words: safe mode

Everyone hates spam too ^post above me.

Anyways, I'd suggest security task manager - It's like the regular task process manager, but it also shows processes hiding in the background and gives you information on each process (Aka, if it's a virus or not)

Oh, and dial up isn't so bad, I use it =P

Visit my website! :D

Don't we all hate spyware?

Even though I don't have any spyware, I heard about a program that downloaded a virus, alerted you the computer had a virus, then it makes you buy an antispyware program that only removes the one virus and costs 20 bucks.

Lol.

I had a virus-related dream about two weeks ago. It opened up the My Computer folder, made it uncloseable, and the text formed a face that wrecked the screen, spit text everywhere, and sweared at me.

I also had one that that made icons of SAV format, scrambled my icons, opened and closed my CD drive, then downloaded more viruses....

There's actually a piece of software that is designed to remove CoolWebSearch specifically. It's called "CWShredder", and it's a very small executable. Search for it.

I've heard about that. It's meant to remove even the undeletable variants of CWS.
You can look up the threat report of CWS here: http://www.siteadvisor.com/sites/coolwebsearch.com
