Frequently Asked Questions concerning Instant Play



Q1 : What should I do to make sure Instant Play works with my game?

A1 : Read this blog entry by Mark Overmars. The requirements for Instant Play are outlined there.



Q2 : Will DLLs, extensions, and other external files (sprites and sounds) work with Instant Play?

A2 : Yes. Place the files in the ZIP along with the executable (with or without directories).



Q3 : I just uploaded my game, why isn't it using Instant Play yet?

A3 : As long as you met the requirements for Instant Play, wait a few hours and the Play Now button should appear.



Q4 : Do GM source files (gmd, gm6, gmk) work with Instant Play?

A4 : No. You have to compile your game as an EXE. (File -> Create Executable ... )



Q5 : I don't want to use Instant Play to play a game. Can I download the game and play it while offline?

A5 : Depends on the game. Users have the option to make their game Instant Play only or to also allow downloading. If the game can be downloaded, check near the bottom-right side of the games' page for an area with the title "Play Offline". There will be a link to download the game there. (Image)



Q6 : I updated my game, but Instant Play is using the old version while the download link gives me the new version. How do I fix this?

A6 : A blinking green button should be located on the right side of the Instant Play bar at the top of the page. Click this button to re-buffer the game, updating your locally cached copy.



Q7 : The Play Now button is not appearing with my uploaded RAR file. What gives?

A7 : ZIP is the only type of compression that works with Instant Play.

Hi,

I cannot play games on yoyogames.com, the following message pop-upps:

When you run UAC under vista then add yoyogames to trusted sites. For more help go to yoyogames.com/help/active x.

I have downloaded ActiveX for the site about a week ago and it just said I had to download it again

And after I redownloaded it the game I uploaded went back to it's past version

When I click the link for downloading active X, nothing happens.

The files are always gmk, etc. you cant change it- I just save it as game maker files- thats the only choice.

@ Alanmp : File -> Create Executable ...

I have uploaded a game that allows you to change the colour of particle effects, but when it runs in instant play, the colour picking dialog box does not appear and the game freezes. Is there a way around this?

instant play needs to be updated for internet explorer 7
edit: nvm, my laptop is being weird and for some reason is getting an unexpected error message with both firefox and IE7, dunno why...

I'm getting a download session expired message too, what is that?

And when I install the toolbar for Firefox, it seems to never work. I installed it and blocked popups multiple times, but every time I click play now I get a prompt to install it again, any help?

the DLL-file C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\YoYoGames\D3DX8.dll isn't a Windows-copy. i always get that message when i start a game via yoyogames.com.
maby someone can help me with it?

When will the firefox addon be compatible with firefox 3? I can't do any instant play until then... :(

If you still can't play the games on yoyogames.com then check out your popup protection. If you have firefox, then go to tools>options>content and whetre it says "Block pop-up windows, click on exceptions then type yoyogames.com or any other site you want to allow open popup windows and you r ready. Mine from now on works. Hope it helped you

Hey, Firefox 3 won't let me install instant play 'cause it says it's not secure. What's up with that?

Im still confused with the Instant play thing. I read it but i didnt understand it. I just uploaded my first game. But i to make it a IP game. any help?

so once i create executable will it work once i load it to load it to yoyo?

how do you load it because when you create exucutable than in makes it a stand alone game, how do you load a stand alone game or do you have to. like my question above.

I uploaded my first game yesterday and it's still not available for Instant Play. It's just a single .exe so there shouldn't be a problem with that. Has the timeframe for Instant Play availability changed since this was first posted?

how long until the firefox 3 addon? :(

i uploaded mine like a day in a half - 2 days and all it is is a download game. Why can isnt it instant play yet? I made it a exe and i put it in a ziped folder

Those are not the only requirements. Read more here:

it does reach the aquirements but it isnt instant play

Then you simply must wait even longer. The bot is probbally pretty freakin busy.
Besides, it's not like it's that big of a deal. Instant play or not, the game can still be played perfectly fine.
