We all know that the six star rating system is terrible and causes so many problems.

I think I have come up with a way to fix it. All we would have to do is call the first star the zero star. So instead of rating 1,2,3,4,5, or 6 /6 stars, it would be changed to 0,1,2,3,4, or 5 /5 stars. This way we would have a 5 star rating system which is much more convenient.

I'm thinking that this system would give more accurate ratings. What do you think?

i agree, i think i will give more accurate ratings, but some people rate games a 1 without playing the game. when u let them rate it !0,1,2,3,4,5 i think they would rate it 0 so this games will almost never be played again. but i already saw somthing for that problem. >>>http://forums.yoyogames.com/forums/7/topics/13883<<<

Eh...why would this be any more accurate? It'd really be the same but make all rarings 1 star lower.

My opinion is by no means everyone else's, but I kinda like the 1-star minimum rating. Also 0 is reserved for games that haven't yet been rated.

That's the point. So instead of a game being rated 4/6 (66.6%) it would be rated 4/5 (80%).

no, it'd be rated 3/5. Because all you're doing is lowering each choice by 1 star.

(6+4+2)/3 = 4/6 stars

Then lower each rating by 1 star (because we'd be moving from 1-6 to 0-5):

(5+3+1)/3 = 3/5 stars

It does yield a different decimal, but it's actually lower (66% for 4/6 and 60% for 3/5)

This system would work if the members here at YoYo Games were smart enough to rate games properly.

I don't understand why the YoYo Games staff created the six star system in the first place. Different does not always mean better! Now, everyone realizes how much better a 5 star system is. To completely fix this problem, the staff should just remove all of the user's ratings, convert the system to the 5 star system, and allow members to re-rate the games.

not exactly saying that 0, would work how 1 does but instead it wouldn't add a rating and perhaps a thumbs up and thumbs down vote and if it get's 50 thumb's down by 50 different user's it goes down 1, if it's more than 5 stars and people have given it 50 thumbs up then it gets a extra star rating slot for when some one wants to rate it, or rate it a bit higher.

Even if you made the rating 3 stars, 5 stars, 10 stars, or even 20 stars... that doesn't change this one simple fact -
There will ALWAYS be people who will rate games down with 1 star and others who will rate games up with a 5 star. Changing from a 6 star to a 5 star will ultimately make very little difference unless everyone somehow changed, and we all know that is impossible.

I hope after doing so you realize that the 6 star system just confuses people. The reason why games are rated so low isn't because people go around down-rating games but simply because they are confused by the system and not sure what rating to give the games.

My point is that if you look at any other site with a 5 star system, where members rate the games, the best games are rated either 4 or 5 stars. That is why I believe that if YoYo Games had the same system we would get proper ratings as well.

"Let's see, one, two, three, four, five. Ah yes, five is the rating that is most used on websites, so I'll click this star without realizing that there is in fact one star higher."

People simply find the rating section and click the star all the way to the right.

I don't understand why you think an x/5 rating system would be any more "proper" than x/6, or x/7, etc. Besides, I personally like 6 stars. It's more original, and originality helps a site stand out.

Next, you say the best games are usually rated between 4 and 5 on most websites? Check the first page in the "play" section - each game on there has a rating of around 4.1-4.3 stars.

Finally, how, exactly, would YYG provide a way for a user to click on 0 stars? You can't click on nothing.

I think you must have misinterpreted my post because I didn't say anything about counting from left to right or giving max ratings. But you are correct, if people want to give a game the max rating they do choose the option furthest to the right. I don't see your point though.

What you have to learn is that originality is not always better. You could walk around town with a shoe on your head. Sure you're standing out, but everyone would think something is wrong with you and wouldn't want to go near you.

Set 1: 16.6% 33.3% 50% 66.6% 83.3% 100%

Set 2: 20% 40% 60% 80% 100%

Set 3: 10% 20% 30% 40% 50% 60% 70% 80% 90% 100%

You are given three different sets of percentages to rate a game. Of course, you would choose set 3 because it gives you the most options and you are familiar with such a system. Your second choice would be set 2 because it is a simplified version of set 3. And sometimes, that's all you need to separate the bad from the good from the great. Set 1 would be your third choice because you are completely unfamiliar with such a system. Sure it has more options than set 2 but why would you ever rate a game 83.3%. Why isn't it rounded off to 80%, and with such weird decimals you are unsure of what to rate the game.

And yes I am saying that a 10 star system would be ideal.

So? Remember this is a six star system. That's only 71.6%. Other sites' games are rated 4 or 5 /5 which is between 80% and 100%.

I'm sure they would come up with a better way than making it invisible as you have suggested. Scratch that idea anyway, it's not important.

To sum it up, the six star system is tolerable. It's just an annoyance.

You obviously have a very strong opinion on this; while I don't understand why, it's one that I cannot change no matter how much we debate. I could attempt to counter some of the things you've said, but I feel that I've given my arguments, and you've given yours, so it's up to YYG to decide what to do now.

The last thing I will say that calling YYG members stupid is a pretty poor way to get your idea implemented.
