its easyer just to make an animated sprite and have the controler draw it across
the room. I guess if there were animated backgrounds it would be easyer but gm8
is no longer taking suggestions

i don't understand the question. I use move_contact_solid with no problem. Who
sets this rule that you shouldn't use it? And why follow it? Just do what works
for you.

1- yes it's possible. Use the sound_add(fname,kind,preload) function.
2-
-A: if distance_to_point(mouse.x,mouse.y) < 30 speed-=2;
of something like that.
-B: set a certain var to true when it's speed hits 0, then keep that direction
constant when the speed is 0 until the speed changes.

Topic: Game Maker Games / Animator - A Skeletal Animation tool written entirely in GM.

It's defiantly a nice idea, i can see people using something like this a lot.
Perhaps a choice in style would be best. Like traditional 8-bit looking
characters (32x32) or 16-bit characters (32x64) as well as street fighter like
characters and more modern styles.

lol I get what your saying. Yeah i guess animated backgrounds would be sweet. I
have to use this ridiculous system where i make the backgrounds 0~7 change
repetitively to get it to animate.

#1: Is it possible to make a game simply link to music so when you hit "Play",
it will play with music it finds stored on your computer? Not included in the
Game File.
That isn't the big issue though, the main question is...
#2: You have an object that follows the mouse, how could I make it so that it
'A' - Gets slower the closer to the mouse it is and 'B' - How can I make it stop
and stay at the angle it last was in when it reaches the mouse. Currently have
the object spinning and shuddering out of control when it touches the mouse.
Any help?

Have an online presence (twitter, facebook, yyg)
Put it in your signature
Actually have things people want
have lots of media (videos, music, free trials etc)
ping your site now and again
stop spamming people

Well, you can still add alpha values know, but it's a lot of work. You could
already start coding it though, and have the game look ugly but get the engine
done and adding the sprites with alpha when gm8 comes out.

Topic: Game Development Issues / Change Colors While Underwater

image_blend Blending color used when drawing the sprite. A value of c_white is
the default. When you specify a different value the image is blended with this
color. This can be used to colorize the sprite on the fly. This variable can
only be set in the Pro Edition!
Not sure how the exact code would look like, but the above should help you with
it. When you only need to draw the top half purple you will need to draw a
square with ... blend from the top of the water to the bottom of the player to
get the desired effect.

That is kinda inefficient, making a rain effect by creating an object for every
raindrop would take about 50/500(depending on how big the raindrops would be)
objects. The built in particle effects are way better for this. If you don't
have pro, you could also make a sprite that fills the view with raindrops, and
just repeat that. This would make the game load a bit longer as with the above
method, but it's a lot less heavy on the cpu.

YES.....Finally got it, thanks to the great suggestions....thank you all.
To solve this I actually used both DeathZero02’s and Jacob the Snacob’s idea’s.
The problem was one of the 23 walls was missing a (1) after the x in its CREATE
EVENT and by having this wall as the “child” of the “parent” wall it was
creating a loop and blaming the parent for the unknown var.
And so using Jacob’s idea of drawing the walls individually, I did this as I
checked each code with a fine comb like DeathZero02 said and managed to weed out
that problem......Thanks again for your ideas.....(including you Martho) .
